ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Durango, Colorado artist Leaf Kizior creates eco-centered watercolor and oil paintings pulling from emotion and intuition. Originally from the Chicago area, Leaf began her artistic career heavily-schooled in realism.

After graduating Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Art Education from Western Illinois University, she recently shifted to depicting abstract work based in the natural world, drawing upon patterns, the contrast between light and dark, color, and intuitive mark making to reflect her own internal journey.

Her work has received numerous awards and has been shown in group exhibitions throughout southwest Colorado, leading to her debut solo exhibition “The Bright and the Deep” through the Durango Creative District’s Incubator for Emerging Artists at Stillwater Music’s “The Light Box.”

The Bright and the Deep features paintings by Durango artist Leaf Kizior. Originally schooled in realism, Leaf shifted her practice towards abstraction upon discovering catharsis and fascination with patterns, the contrast between light and dark, and the vast breadth and depth of emotions as expressed through the natural world. Leaf’s current work is rooted in emotion, springing from dreams, visions and memories—always honoring the earth in both imagery and ecologically minded materials. She now sees painting as a type of visual journaling and adventure meant to be shared with others. In addition, it is her strongest hope that all may find peace, cheer and comfort in and through her creations.
