Revel in Play: seize the moment is a solo exhibition featuring all new abstract paintings by Durango local, Heather Freeman. The exhibition will be on view at Stillwater Music’s new art and performance venue in partnership with Durango Creative District’s Incubator for Emerging Artists from January 27 - March 31, 2023. Freeman is known for her active involvement in Durango Open Studio Tour and The ArtRoom Collective in the Smiley Building, where she has been painting full time since November 2021.
Freeman’s influences are playful and steeped in mindfulness, often starting with an intention such as a feeling, thought, or theme inspired by a memory or experience, one usually steeped in joy or connection. Blending various mediums together, Freeman’s works are a mélange of acrylic, graphite, and oil stick. This mixed media approach provides the platform for her abstract subject matter made up of various symbols and doodles and then layered on richly textured swathes of vibrant color. All these elements; the mixed media, the playful intentions, and the vibrant colors, coalesce to ultimately convey the overarching theme Freeman lives and creates for: to let go of perfection and revel in play.
